Miley Cyrus raises money for charity with covers of 80s hits

Miley Cyrus founded The Happy Hippie Foundation in May 2015 to “rally young people to fight injustice facing homeless youth, LGBTQ youth and other vulnerable populations.”

To kickoff the endeavor, Cyrus hosted a series of “Backyard Sessions” where special musical guests were invited to perform along with Cyrus and an amazing house band.

Our favorite video from these “Backyard Sessions” is Cyrus’s cover of Crowded House’s 1986 hit “Don’t Dream It’s Over.” Cyrus is joined by Ariana Grande and their duet sounds simply magical.  Their performance is very laid back and mellow—Cyrus riffs in the middle of the performance, but the duo bring it back home with a strong close.

Cyrus recorded a total of ten “Backyard Sessions” with artists Joan Jett, Laura Jane Grace, Atom Willard, and Melanie Safka.
