Google technology will give us Jedi-like control of electronics

Imagine if you could control and adjust your thermostat, home entertainment system, microwave oven and other electronic devices by waving your hand and twisting your fingers—similar to the Jedi-like powers of Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader.

The Google ATAP group working on Project Soli hope to make this kind of super power a reality. The team has developed a technology that leverages radar-based fundamentals to enable humans to interact with electronics using basic mid-air gestures.

“The tiny sensors track sub-millimeter motions at high speed and accuracy. It fits onto a chip, can be produced at scale, and built into small devices and everyday objects.”

It will be up to us to decide if we will use our new powers for the good of the galaxy or to fuel the ambitions of the empire.
